Lebanon - The People

The People

A 2002 estimate placed the Lebanese population at 3,677,780 with a population density of 352 persons per sq km (911 per sq mi).  The majority of the people are found along the coast and some people are found along the slopes of the Lebanon Mountains.  About 90 percent of the population is urban. Emigration to other countries has been steady, and was sharp during the civil war.  During the civil war the cities were greatly damaged.  Beirut has regained almost all of it’s prewar population, and it is the largest in the country. Followed by Tripoli, Juniyah, and then Zahle.
