Rapid Pig ReviewsNight & Day gig, 20th Dec 2001 - KCRelease the Hounds CD - KC Release the Hounds CD - VM ![]() CD - Release The Hounds - Kris CurtisCD details1.I'd go Swimming if I was That Stoned Again ****1/2 Reminds me of a moody 80s road movie, an almost apocalyptic ambience which, in contrast to the more stompy, psychedelic/prog induced sound that follows, makes for a very edgy but balanced piece of music. ***1/2 A manic & somewhat perverse interpretation of the old Grange Hill theme. Eoin's distorted howls of 'Crazy in Love' are piss funny and bone chilling. Don't listen more than once - sticks in your head forever after. Fuckin' great and annoying. ***1/2 HAs it's intense moments - quite unsettling throughout. I expected a bit of thrash metal for some psychological primal-scream therapy style closure on the uneasy jitteriness and fear I believe it to be hinting at. Yours, Sigmund. **** Made me want to light up and slap copious amounts of Fop in my hair. Good whiskey drinking bollocks you play at full blast at one of those dockside bars in, erm, Denmark. **** The journey of a man whose life long ambition of travelling to space is cut short when his rocket conks out and crash lands in Tasmania, where he fantasises about a little place some thousands of miles away. Fantastico! Top Of Page ![]() Gig - Night & Day, Dec 2001Gig detailsUpon entering Night & Day I was pleased to see it being almost full to the brim, though I feared this might make the guys a little nervous. It was a relief to see Jon as calm as a cucumber and the other guys having a laugh. Despite being ill, paying a silly amount for a warm bottle of Guinness (bottle?!) and having a profile positioned mohican obscuring my view of the stage, I was confident this was to be a ball breaking performance - and that it certainly was! From what I can recall, the set started with 'Spooks' which seemed to last quite a while, but eased the audience into the Pig Condition - a very subtle opener. This was followed by a very amusing conversation between Jon and Eoin. Phil slipped into the shadows as Jon addressed the Polish members of the audience. We were then treated to 'Two Foot Toronto' which, unsurprisingly, got a lot of attention, and pleased the people sat around us. This ws followed by 'At What Cost' which made all the ladies fancy Eoin. A thoroughly enjoyable tune - very moving, but I can't shake off the boy band connotations since it was suggested. It was quite a shock when the soothing intro was interrupted by the band's agonised bellowing, but an excellent addition. In keeping with the sombre atmos, they then performed 'Late SHopping' which made me want to visit Tesco Metro. The song finished with the wild and very raw sounding 'Forever' which excitied not only myself and the aforementioned mohicaned punk, but everyone in the place - no one was still. I'd heard 'Forever' performeda lot better in rehearsal with more energy & intensity, but it still worked in wrapping up a very successful and enjoyable gig. Top Of Page ![]() |
