Deze site is een persoonlijke, niet-commerciële website bedoeld om informatie te verzamelen rond het verdwenen paneel "De Rechtvaardige Rechters" van het veelluik "Het Lam Gods" Van de Gebroeders Van Eyck.

De Rechtvaardige Rechters werden in de nacht van 10 op 11 april 1934 samen met het paneel "Johannes De doper" ontvreemd uit de Sint-Baafs Kathedraal in Gent. Na de diefstal ontving de bisschop van Gent een reeks dreigbrieven waarin een losgeld geëist werd van 1 miljoen Belgische frank voor beide panelen. Als bewijs van vertrouwen werd door de afperser(s) het paneel van Johannes De Doper teruggegeven. De kerk weigerde echter akkoord te gaan met de door de afperser(s) voorgeschreven procedure van betaling en het paneel van De Rechtvaardige Rechters bleef spoorloos.

Op 25 november 1934 sterft Arsène Goedertier, politicus en wisselagent in Wetteren, plots aan hartaanval. Net voor hij overlijdt kan hij nog zeggen dat hij de einige is die weet waar het verdwenen paneel van "de Rehctvaardige Rechters" zich bevindt. Alle details zijn te vinden in een enveloppe in zijn bureau. De afpersbrieven aan de bisschop en een vrij ingewikkelde tekening worden gevonden. Maar De Rechtvaardige Rechters blijven spoorloos.

Tot vandaag zijn er kanjers van boeken geschreven, onderzoeken gevoerd, mogelijke verstopplaatsen uitgekamd en theorieën geponeerd, maar het paneel is nog steeds spoorloos.

Wie stal de panelen? Waarom? Bestaat het paneel nog of is het vernietigd?

This website is a non-commercial and personal site aiming to collect and offer information regarding the diappearence of the painting of "The Just Judges", a part of the "Agneau Mystique" of the Van Eyck Brothers.

The Just Judges were stolen from the Church of Saint-Bavo in Gent in the night of april 10th, 1934 together with
"St John The Baptist" another part of the "Agneau Mystique". Three days later the bisschop received a letter demanding 1 million Belgian franks for the 2 paintings. The letter was signed with the enigmatic letters D.U.A.
Initially an agreement was made with the thieves and the painting of St. John was returned.
However, the negotiations were discontinued and "The Just Judges" were never recovered.

November 25th, 1934, Arsène Goedertier, a politician and businessman collapses after a serious heart attack.
While breathing his last breath he mentions that he alone knows the hiding place of "The Just Judges"
and that details can be found in the drawer of his desk.
14 blackmail letters to the bisschop and a few enignmatic drawings or plans are found in his office...
An investigation is started, but the painting cannot be found.

Meanwhile, more than 60 years later, books have been written, secrets have been revealed,
but no-one has yet been able to answer these questions:

What was the reason of stealing the painting and who did it? Does it still exist?
Where is it now? What do Mr. Goedertier's strange drawings mean?
